This summer I have had many firsts. I canned beans, peaches, and tomatoes by myself and I made fruit leather. Well I attempted the fruit leather but the canning worked out great. I actually had fun doing these things too. I was talking to my mom and telling her how domestic I'm being. She was very proud of her baby girl who cans.
So on Monday I canned my peaches. My mom gave me an old caner that she didn't use anymore. Well when I used it, it had a hole in the bottom of it and it leaked water all over my stove. So that didn't work. I ran over to my wonderful neighbors home and she let me borrow hers to finish the job. I finally got the first batch in and going. When done I was pulling the bottles out and yes this happened.
That was a another first for me. I've never had the bottom of a bottle completely break off. So I fished out the peaches and started another batch. Luckily I had no more incidents while canning. This is a good thing because I was canning until 10:30 that night.
Yesterday I did tomatoes. This truly was a first for me in all aspects. I have never done this with anyone. So I dived into boiling, peeling, and cutting. It wasn't hard work but I kept having interruptions. Both my sisters called, I had one visitor (we never have people knock on our door), RB came home, and a boy came over for us to watch him for the night. Needless to say it took a little longer than expected but it wasn't too bad. It only took 3 hrs to do 4 pints! Yes I said 4 pints. They were small tomatoes.
Well I have to go for now. I'll update you on my new adventure in becoming more domestic.

Water Helps Things Grow
So normally I don't like posting when I do dumb things. However, I learned a very important lesson that most first graders know. Plus, for those of you who are having a bad day maybe you will get a smile or giggle out of this. Last night RB and I could not sleep. We talked about this and that and what not. We ended up on the topic of our poor lawn. For the past month it has been dying. RB kept saying maybe we need to increase our watering time 5-10 min. and see if that helps, or he even threw out the idea of getting those lawn care people to come like our neighbors did. Their lawn is beautiful and ours keeps dying! It is just getting worse and worse. So while we were talking about this RB asked if the water system was even on. I said yes of course. Then I thought about it and wasn't sure. So down the stairs I went at midnight to look, and sure enough the system was off. We had done some testing to see of the sprinkler heads were right and I forgot to turn them back on when done. So I learned my important lesson. Water helps things grow! :)

Polishing
When I got home from work yesterday MJ decided we needed to "polish our toes and fingers." I did hers with each hand and foot being a different color. Then it was her turn to do mine. She got through the first two toes and I said I will finish them. I did let her do all of my fingers though since is was a light tanish pinkish color. I'm a little embarrassed to be posting my toes on my blog but you have to see the pic to understand RB's comment.
NEVER in our 6 1/2 years of marriage has RB seen me with polished toes and fingers. MJ, Lil, and I finished our polishing well before RB got home from work. So we didn't say anything and let him figure it out on his own. On our way to the store he was putting the car in drive and he did a double take. Then he makes some comment about my toe looking like it has been severed off. That's it. No more comments. I didn't even get "at least the other ones look good" or "Please don't ever do that again." So I really don't know how he feels about it. I know I don't like it. I feel like I can't touch anything. Like I have to be dainty and girly now. At least my toes are normally covered with shoes.
It was fun to polish my nails with MJ. Lil loved it too even though she still keeps trying to get the color off. It was a good girls activity no matter how much I don't like it.

Zoo and Park
Yesterday RB had to take a test up at USU to prove he can be a teacher. It was a two hour test from when it started. He was up there for about 3 hours. So while he was test taking we had a girl party. We started with going to Willow park. Here is Lil sitting all cute like in her shoes. We may have a problem when Marti Gras comes. Lil already likes necklaces and will wear as many as she can find.
Here is MJ climbing up the big slide. It is now her favorite thing to do.
Lil is just starting to enjoy the swing and this is good because MJ likes pushing her in it.
Then we went to the zoo. I find the zoo to be quite boring. A lot of ducks and birds. I was surprised to find they now have porcupines, raccoons, and even a boa constrictor. But still kind of boring. I'm glad the girls liked it though. Lil really liked watching the monkeys. Maybe because she's one and maybe cause they were the only active animal there, besides the ducks that knew they could get food if they were lively.
The girls looking at the turtle.
This is my favorite part of the zoo. I love the wallaby. Kangaroos are awesome. Too bad they were so boring when we were there. Still cool but boring.
MJ is such a good pic. taker.
That night I went to a meeting at the church and MJ came with me. She wanted to wear earrings. Yes, I know they are only bobby-pins. But don't tell her that!
RB felt good about his test. He now has to wait about a month before he gets the results. Have a good day!

Peach Days
Before I get to Peach days I had the share the pic that MJ colored for a coloring contest. I don't know if she won or anything but I thought it was good. Yes it is only one color but she did good to color the different objects and not just everything. I was impressed. Click on the pic to make it larger if needed.
Now on to Peach Days. RB and I are not the fair going people. We like the food even though it's so expensive. Plus MJ likes to walk around and look at the booth. Last night we went and watched a friends daughter play her violin at center stage. It was fun to watch her and then walk around a little. We ended up leaving and making our own dessert to eat while playing games at home but it was still a good evening.
This is Lil with her new friend while MJ walked around with her friend.
MJ and her friend that played the violin. She was the youngest one up there. She is only in second grade and she's pretty good. The next pic is the first one I took of MJ with her friend. Her eyes are so funny I had to post it. I took this pic right at the perfect moment. Enjoy the face.

Labor Day Weekend and School
Wow, it feels like I haven't blogged in a LONG time. Even though it's only been a week or two. So I feel kind of bad because everybody blogged their first day of school with pics and everything. Well there was no way I was going to take a pic. of myself on the first day of school. I'm not sure RB would have been impressed either. It was the furthest things from our minds. So sorry no first day of school pics. School is going well. I have 2-3 new programs/systems this year that has made me feel like a brand spankin' new teacher all over again. I don't have a clue what I'm doing. RB seems to be doing better. He really likes his class and only wishes the teacher manuals for their new program would get in.
Over labor day we played Frisbee golf, stayed home, vegetated, did school projects, and enjoyed ourselves. Lil wanted to learn how to cook and MJ liked being home. Overall, life is good and crazy. Just how I like it. Take care and have a wonderful day!
